Fiction League — Free Short Story Competition
Fiction League is a free short story competition where writers compete in anonymous tournaments. Run from the UK and open to writers worldwide, Fiction League was built for those whose goal is to improve their craft and, eventually, to be published.
Anonymous by Design
Stories are entered into eight-person tournaments where they are read and voted on by other writers. Competitions run continuously, and writers progress by performing well across multiple rounds.
Every submission is anonymous and every vote is blind. Stories are judged on the writing itself, not on the reputation or network of the author. A little competition gives writers a reason to keep submitting, testing new ideas, and seeing how their work compares with others.
A Path to Publication
Writers who perform consistently move up the rankings and into higher levels of competition. Those who prove themselves can qualify for Publication Competitions, where the winner is offered a publication deal: their chosen work is then printed in a run of two hundred physical copies (or more depending on how well we fundraise), and sold through the site with a large chunk of the royalties shared with the author.
Our Aim
Our aim is to make creative writing more meritocratic. For most writers, the path to recognition is unclear — traditional publishing favours those with agents, connections, or an existing platform. Fiction League is designed to give all authors an equal opportunity, in a system where the quality of the work is the only determining factor.
We built Fiction League because we believe the best writing deserves to surface — regardless of who wrote it.
